All about Adelia

Of course, since Tianna had her own post, Adelia needed one too!
Every single day I am amazed at how big she is getting... maybe it has to do with having an older sister, but she just seems to be way too grown up for someone who isn't even close to 3 yet.  She's like a sponge of knowledge.  I can't take her to any store or any place without explaining what it's called and what they do there.  She wants to know if every singer on the radio is a boy or a girl, and that girl can learn songs better than anyone I know.

She hears a song once and sings the right words (mostly... but it's really funny when they aren't!)  Example from last Christmas:  The song that says "Ho ho the mistletoe, hung where you can see.."   she sang it in tune, but to the words "Ho ho mr. toad, hung where you can see."  I laughed for days about that one!
She also speaks so clearly and in full sentences.   And boy, are they funny too!

Here is an example of a conversation we had yesterday while I fixed her hair.
"Whoah! My hair's crazy! I look like Captain Jack Sparrow."  Me thinking.. oh great, you think you look like an unbathed, dreadlocked pirate...big fail!  Adelia: "Oh, wow. Now I look like a genius.!........what's a genius? " Me thinking: like Einstein? That's an even bigger fail!   Adelia: "now I look like a plant."  Me: "A plant?  Okay now that's going too far."  Then she saw the final product and said, "Oh... I look like a girl."  She is so silly!

Her hair is finally long enough to fix and it's been so fun! (even if she looks like Einstein with dreadlocks sometimes!)
In biggest report, she is officially POTTY TRAINED! yaaaaaay! We tried back in November and were fairly unsuccessful.  We both got burned out quickly and when she started refusing to do anything but sit on the potty and all I could think about was all the Christmas preparations I could be doing, we paused the training.  It worked out better for our Disneyland trip anyway.

Then the last week of January we decided it was time.  Maybe I just had better incentives this time, which is probably the biggest factor, or a little break was all she needed, but she just decided she was going to do it.  She got a penny every time she went #1 (haha) and as she went #2 she would get ice cream, or her toenails painted etc.  After she went successfully for  several days in a row she earned a PONY! Oh buddy, was she excited to get that pony!
After about 3 days we didn't even need a timer anymore and she had very few accidents.  I think the best thing we could ever do for her was give her a break until she was FULLY ready.... oh that, and going cold turkey.  Pull-ups were a no-go for the first few days because they didn't give enough consequence.  After the first few days of staying dry we went back to pull-ups under her panties just for convenience if she happens to not make it on time.
So basically, not to sound too cliche` but MY BABY IS NOT A BABY ANYMORE! Whaaaaaaaaah!!! I am so proud of the sweet, funny, high-spirited, super wonderful little girl you are! You may be like Jeykl and Hyde a lot of the time with your super sweetness one minute and your scowls and your attitude the next, but WE SURE LOVE YOU, ADELIA!

All about Tianna

While Luke was away I took Tianna up to her check up at Primary Childrens.. I went expecting such good news about her arthritis because her knees seem to be doing so well.
Sadly, that was not the case.  Her knees were looking wonderful (yay!) but her ankles and her jaw were suspected to have it now.  BOOOO! We x-rayed her ankles and they did have some arth. in them.  I honestly didn't think they did because the don't bother her.  But her jaw was obvious because when she opened her mouth wide her bottom jaw was further to one side.  However, the only was to know for sure was through an MRI.
On Jan 25th we went to the Riverton Primary Children's for her MRI. She had to have an IV so she could have conscious sedation.  She haaaated getting the IV but everything well went.
Okay, as well as they can when you have to take your 5 year old who shouldn't have to have anything like this happen to them, well.  At least Luke was able to come with us since he had technically "worked" during the weekend for his flight home from Japan and had a day off to make up for it.
Thankfully Adelia had a good place to be while we were at the hospital. my friend Kristen lived nearby and watched her..  In fact, she's married to Luke's cousin so her kids and my kids are 3rd cousins. So fun!

Anyway, it came back positive that she did in fact have it in her jaw.  That is NOT good... the jaw bone erodes very quickly with the arthritis so they wanted to do a joint injection asap..... and change her medication.  That part is the hardest for me. But I will explain that issue some other time.

But in non-related to arthritis news, she is growing up!!!
She started taking Ballet lessons from a lady in our ward and loves it so far!
Three days after her MRI, she woke up Saturday, the 28th and said, "Mom! I have something to tell you!"  She ran in my room to show me she has a loose tooth. Sure enough! and as she wiggled it all day long (and cried a bit about it) eventutally it got so loose I pulled it out.
The tooth fairy made her debut performance that night! When she woke up and showed Adelia her dollar, Adelia said, "let's do it again!" meaning, pull Tianna's other teeth out! hahahaha..
She must have had a premonition because the next day, Tianna found another loose one. This time we told her not to wiggle it too much so it could stay in a little longer (and because she whined so much every time she moved it!)

On February 3rd we had her Joint Injections at Primary Childrens in SLC.  My mom was kind enough to come up and take care of Adelia for us.  Tianna was so brave this time. It melted my heart to see her be so strong.  She had a lot of fun waiting (and waiting and waiting!) we were there for over 2 hours before they even started her anesthesia.

Playing doctor to her new doll
Then the procedure, which was far more in depth this time because it was in her jaw (and ankles) took an hour.  The jaw is so small it had to be done in radiology.  Then another hour or two to get her out of anesthesia.  She had a bit of a rougher time this time, but was still so brave.
She even woke up with a little surprise from THE TOOTH FAIRY! right before she went under, they asked if she had any loose teeth. They offered to pull out her tooth while she was asleep-- i thought it was a great idea!
She woke up to an adorable little specimen cup with her tooth, her dollar (she was a quick little fairy!) and a label saying "Tianna's second loose tooth."  I love the radiology department! They were amazingly kind to us.

That night the Tooth Fairy came again....... I guess she figured getting your tooth pulled while at Primary Children's warranted 2 dollars.  :)

After a few days of sore ankles (kind of ironic that they never hurt BEFORE but did after) she's been doing great.  I don't know if it has fully helped her jaw because it is still off-centered, but, hopefully it stopped any more erosion.  I will update when we know anything else.

As for now, I just want Tianna to know how much we love her.  She is such an amazing person and is growing up to be quite a great young lady!

Happy Girls

Boy were these girls happy to see their guy after he was gone for a week:
Sporting our awesome new Kimono's that daddy brought for us.
We enjoyed hearing all about his wonderful trip, tasting the funny treats he brought home, and simply happy to be back together!
