For Labor Day weekend we went to Auray and Silverton Colorado. Kind of crazy to take a 6 week old baby on vacation, but we had made plans with the Merrells and Davis' months and months before to do this vacation. They didn't know we were expecting at the time of planning, but we decided we could NOT go if we needed. Since she was healthy and well, we decided to move forward with our plans. We are so glad we did. It was a VERY fun trip!
All loaded and ready to go
First stop: lunch in Grand Junction
Vera was perfect on the long 6 hour drive!
Finally arrived in Auray at our rental cabin
A restaurant where you can literally write on the walls. Not bad, not bad!
The woods around the cabin were very pretty... we let the kids wander and play, but little did we know that we would have a special visitor come from those very trees later. We might not have let our kids play outside unattended.
Seriously, those mountains were SO gorgeous!
Oh unwantd guest stole the garbage OFF the deck, just feet away from the open door where Luke was fixing dinner!!! And he emerged from the very woods our kids were playing in hours before this! SCARY!
We ended the fun-filled day looking for a geocache
Sunday we drove up to Silverton to attend church and sight-see.
We saw some strange transportations
Watching the Silverton Train come in was really cool!
Then we ate dinner in a Saloon. Great Sunday activity! haha
We went on a tour of the old Silverton gold mine
Panning for gold
Safety first!
Riding the train car through "Old Hundred" the gold mine
The road between Silverton and Ouray was super scary. Not only were there NOT guard rails on that windy narrow road, but the cliff beneath was pretty much a sheer drop off and very very long. Yikes!
Monday morning the boys went on a Canyoneering adventure
While the daddy's played, the mommy's and children checked out the Hot Springs/pool
The older girls had to pass a swimming test to be allowed on the obstacle course
While wandering around downtown Ouray we ran into our friends, the Lemons. Luke and Orrin are co-workers at Kee Engineering in Price.
That evening we went back to the Hot Springs for the Daddy's to get a chance to soak in the warmth.... of THAT pool. The other ones were freezing cold!
Mama stayed out and hung with Vera.
Tuesday we cleaned up and headed home. Here are some pictures of the cabin
We took a VERY long detour home. We went back up over the mountains to Silverton the dropped down into Durango.
We saw gorgeous sights along the way.
Durango
The Durango train museum
We made it to Monticello and took a much needed break. The Temple was the pefect spot for a stop
Final break: Moab
Vera didn't like riding the goat
And at last.................. home.
