So.... Shrek! I was very lucky to be involved with my first play with the Payson Community Theater. I never imagined that Payson would have such an outstanding community theater. This was my 10th show and I can honestly say the very best! We had many people say our production was better than many professional plays they had seen. I couldn't agree more! The level of talent was incredible! The set and the costumes were breathtaking! I am still in awe at what this show accomplished.
The adventure began on April 30th when I auditioned. I felt fairly confident after my first audition, but then call backs were horrible! I had to learn a dance and be judged on it and then sing a song I had never heard with 2 other people and not only sing it on pitch etc but at the same time being some sort of character and letting my inner "freak" out. wow.... it went really badly! Not to mention, I actually was coming down with the stomach flu so I felt as horrible as my audition went. I came home convinced I would not get a part. Much to my surprise, I was cast.
I was cast as a villager, a fairy tale creature (Little Bo Peep) and Fiona's double. During the scene where Donkey finds Fiona as an ogre so I wore the green dress, the wig, the FAT suit and a large bulbous nose. The other time I doubled for her was during the wedding scene when Fiona needed to turn into the ogre for the finale, I came out in the wedding dress with my back turned to the audience. It was fun playing all of those parts.. but it was super busy, especially Act 2.
I hated that the show was during the summer. It conflicted quite a bit with our usual summer fun....... but Luke was a good sport and we still managed some fun ;) For June and July I only had rehearsal about 2 times a week. It wasn't too bad, except it was often on Friday night which made it very hard to go out of town.
But we managed. And one benefit is how much more Linaya liked being with her daddy after spending so much more time with him without mommy around.
August got hairy. I had to be there nearly every day and sometimes on Saturdays. It was hard being away from the family but it was really good to do something I LOVE. I was also making really great friends and having a wonderful experience!
The show opened on August 23rd. I had a bunch of family and friends come to watch and it was so much fun knowing people in the audience were out there for me. All of the shows went really really well. It was totally exhausting, but SO worth it!

The cast was in the Onion Days parade and then we had our final show afterwards. Luke went grouse hunting in Castle Dale so the girlies needed to be in the parade with me. I figured they could sport the sheep look :) They are adorable!
